Richard Trenton Chase, born May 23, 1950 was an American serial killer from Santa Clara County, California. He was often called "The Vampire of Sacramento" because he drank his victims blood and then ate their remains. He did this as part of a delusion that he needed to prevent Nazis from turning his blood into powder via poison they had planted beneath his soap dish. Chase had 6 known victims, and murdered and drank the blood of multiple animals. After he was arrested he died in prison, committing suicide via antidepressant over dose.
Chase suffered from many mental illnesses, including hypochondria, schizophrenia, paranoia, and the MacDonald Triad.
